Project #2: Local Pharmacy
Project Description:
$5,000 per year request
Grantee wishes to establish a community pharmacy to stock over-the-counter drugs for common ailments.
Access to doctors is limited in poor communities in Sub-Saharan Africa. The availability of pharmacies sometimes fills the gap by providing common over-the-counter drugs to treat symptoms for mild ailments before patients are able to get appointments at the few available hospitals. Many of the smaller communities lack access to either doctors or regular pharmacy stores. This project wishes to establish small community pharmacies that stock common over-the-counter drugs under the supervision of licensed healthcare professionals.
Poor communities in Nigeria lack access to basic over-the-counter medications that can alleviate common diseases, including malaria, fevers, diarrhea, and headaches. This proposal seeks to open a small community pharmacy to stock medicines such as multivitamins, antimalaria drugs and band-aids that community members can access to treat symptoms prior to visiting clinics.
Project #3: Piggery Farm
